Nicolas Party's exhibition features new pastels depicting aquatic fauna, portraits and forests, all immersed in a cosmic space imbued with a sense of movement and evanescence. The monumental voluptuousness of the motifs previously treated by the artist, absorbed by geometric volumes and homogeneous surfaces with saturated colours, gives way to a dream world dominated by fluid atmospheres. Seahorses and octopuses, belonging to the sphere of mythological marine creatures, float in surreal aquatic environments; several species of moths flutter in clouds of golden steam. In the forest series, the artist focuses on the waving foliage of the trees, while the new portraits, in which iridescent flows of steel gray refer to Victorian photography, evoking the nostalgic memory of bygone eras and the fleeting nature of earthly life.
