Overall
The poetics of Paolo Icaro - one of the protagonists of the artistic research of the Sixties, close to the experience of Arte Povera - is characterized by the continuous overcoming of the idea of sculpture as an object, to transform it into a process, an experience. Sculpture thus becomes more a need for existence than for form, which gives life to images of gravity and lightness, of matter and abstraction, of measure and excess. Deconstructing the language of sculptural action, Icaro conducts a constant investigation into space and its perception, and into the infinite plastic and metaphorical possibilities that different materials offer. "Sculpture comes true when I give substance to the idea that resides in mental space" declared the artist.
